The Leiden Marathon is a very flat city loop that starts and finishes at the Beestenmarkt and passes the Pieterskerk, the Rapenburg canal, and Leiden University. The long flat streets and canal-side roads are easy to pace, the tighter historic turns are the main tougher moments, and spectators are best at the Beestenmarkt, along Rapenburg, and through the university quarter.
The Leiden Marathon course is very flat over 42.195 km (26.2 miles). Runners cover 50 metres of climbing and 50 metres of descent, with minimal net elevation change from start to finish.
The Leiden Marathon uses open registration at leidenmarathon.nl with no ballot or qualifying standard. Sign-up for the March race typically opens early in the year. The flat Dutch university-city course draws regional club runners and places usually remain available until closer to race day.
