The route crosses the Golden Gate Bridge, passes the Presidio, Golden Gate Park, and the Haight. Hilly throughout, with the steepest climbs in the Presidio and through Golden Gate Park.

The Quito Marathon attracts approximately 3,000 finishers each July in Ecuador's capital at roughly 2,850 m altitude — one of the world's highest major marathons. July's dry-season equatorial weather and the altitude challenge make it South America's most demanding capital-city marathon.
