The Santiago Marathon is a city loop starting and finishing at Plaza de la Constitucion, passing the Costanera Center, Providencia, and the Mapocho riverfront. The riverfront and central boulevard sections are the easiest because they stay mostly flat, while the subtle urban rollers through Providencia and the more exposed late straights are tougher. Crowds gather at Plaza de la Constitucion, around Providencia, and along the Mapocho embankment.

How long is the Santiago Marathon?

What time does the Santiago Marathon start?
The 2027 Santiago Marathon starts at 8:00 am local time on Sunday, 2 May 2027. Arrive early for baggage drop and corral access — official race communications confirm any last-minute schedule changes.
Can runners see the Andes mountains during the Santiago Marathon?
Yes — on clear days, the snow-capped Andes are visible along much of the course, forming a dramatic high-mountain backdrop to the east. Santiago sits at the foot of the Andes at around 520 metres elevation, and the mountains rise to over 6,000 metres just kilometres away.
Does Santiago's altitude affect marathon performance?
Santiago is at approximately 520 metres above sea level — low enough that altitude has a minimal effect on most runners (less than 1%). However, the city sits in a valley that can trap pollution; air quality can occasionally be poor in autumn, so checking conditions before race day is worthwhile.
When is the Santiago Marathon held?
The Maratón de Santiago is typically held on the first Sunday of May, early autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Santiago in May is pleasant (12–20 °C) with low humidity and long daylight hours — good conditions for fast running.
What is the elevation profile of the Santiago Marathon?

What neighbourhoods does the Santiago Marathon pass through?
The course covers Santiago's central and eastern districts: the historic Plaza de Armas, the leafy Barrio Italia, Providencia, Las Condes, and the riverside Parque Forestal — a tour of the city's most vibrant and attractive areas.
